Georgetown’s MS-ESM Program Receives Yellow Ribbon Funding To Support Veterans

In an effort to enhance access to educational opportunities for veterans seeking advanced degrees, the M.S. in Environment and Sustainability Management (MS-ESM) program at Georgetown University is now extending Yellow Ribbon Program (YRP) scholarships to those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The new financial agreement for MS-ESM veteran students is an expansion of the graduate-level YRP maximums established last year for the McDonough School of Business and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

“The Yellow Ribbon program makes a significant difference for our students because it is a way to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of our military and their families as well as a way to acknowledge the value these students bring to our program’s cohort,” said Kerrie Carfagno, MS-ESM program director.

Today, current and future MS-ESM students are eligible to apply for YRP funding to help cover the cost of admission tuition in the 11-month interdisciplinary program, with no limit on the number of students who are eligible to participate.

“As an active duty military spouse of almost 20 years, it is a great privilege to help make higher education possible for the brave men and women who have served our country,” said Shelly Heinrich, associate dean and managing director, MBA and MS-ESM admissions and executive director of program marketing. “Expanding Yellow Ribbon Program funding across our degree programs is an important step in providing life-changing opportunities for service members and the veteran community alike.”

To qualify for the program, the Department of Veterans Affairs specifies that participants must be 100% eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits, be enrolled in a degree-seeking program, and accrue a total tuition and fees amount that is more than the Post-9/11 private tuition maximum for an academic year.

The unique curriculum of the MS-ESM program combines principles of environmental science with a foundation in business management, delivering the comprehensive knowledge students need to become a principled leader in environment and sustainability.
