Incoming MA-IBP Cohort Represents Diverse, Multicultural Perspectives
The incoming Master of Arts in International Business and Policy (MA-IBP) cohort brings together a group of working professionals with diverse, global perspectives. Offered in conjunction with the Walsh School of Foreign Service, the one-year interdisciplinary program aims to build international and business skills through leadership and collaboration among a diverse group of peers.
In the MA-IBP cohort that started in January 2024, half of the class (52%) are women, up from 38% last year. 43% of students represent U.S. diversity, and 33% are underrepresented minorities.
“Our MA-IBP cohort is not only a melting pot of perspectives and experiences, but a strategic platform for students to thrive in a globalized landscape,” said Nita Swinsick, associate dean of Graduate and Executive Degree Programs Admissions. “By fostering a diverse learning environment, our graduates emerge as visionary leaders ready to tackle the multifaceted challenges of our interconnected world.”
Nearly half (46%) of the cohort has international citizenship in a broad range of countries, including Afghanistan, Colombia, France, Ghana, Guatemala, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Uganda, and more – with 18 different languages spoken. The vast majority of students (92%) have lived, worked, or studied abroad.
The MA-IBP program is designed for working professionals who want to advance their careers while balancing work and personal commitments. Of the 52 students in the cohort, nearly a quarter (21%) have already earned a postgraduate degree. The average age of students is 33, with an average of nine years of full-time work experience. Students come from nine industries – including international development, government, finance, and technology and new media – and 17% have military experience.
