Georgetown Flex MBA Online Provides Greater Access for International Students

After the successful launch of the first cohort of the Flex MBA Online program, Georgetown McDonough is expanding its global reach to applicants within three hours of Eastern Time Zone, encompassing students living in Canada, Mexico, Central, and South America.

“Georgetown’s MBA program is recognized around the world for its global focus and commitment to international perspectives, and we want to foster the same culture within our Flex MBA Online,” said Shelly Heinrich, associate dean and managing director of MBA Admissions. “By offering our synchronous coursework in new time zones, we hope to welcome a global network of students who can benefit from the flexibility and rigor of the Flex MBA.”

The Flex MBA Online, which delivers the same degree as the in-person program with the added convenience of virtual classes, provides a blend of synchronous and asynchronous coursework, along with two week-long residencies in Washington, D.C., and the signature Global Business Experience consulting project. The program welcomed its first class of 45 students this fall.

The inaugural class represents a diverse group of professionals, with strong representation from women (36%) and students with military backgrounds (31%). The incoming cohort also includes 27% U.S. diversity. With an average age of 29, students bring 4.25 years of work experience from a range of industries, including financial services (24%), government (13%), and technology and new media (9%).

Students in the Flex MBA Online are integrated into the broader Georgetown community through on-campus residencies, curricular and co-curricular offerings, access to the McDonough Career Center, and an emphasis on team-based learning throughout the program. Students have access to MBA career coaches in a virtual environment where they can receive assistance in navigating their career search, including enhancing their resume and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and negotiating offers.

“The Flex MBA Online was intentionally designed to maximize synchronous, face-to-face learning opportunities with professors and peers throughout the program,” said Sudipta Dasmohapatra, senior associate dean of MBA programs. “We look forward to expanding this offering to students outside of the United States who wish to join our close-knit community and leverage the rich learning experiences that Georgetown is known for.”

Similar to the traditional Flex MBA program, the online option can be completed in as little as 24 months or as long as five years. Students who have completed prior graduate coursework can request approval to transfer up to 12 credit hours into the program to shorten the duration required to complete the degree.

Applications are currently open for the Fall 2024 cohort of the Flex MBA Online. Georgetown McDonough has extended the round two deadline for Flex MBA Online students until January 11, 2024. International students are encouraged to apply early to allow time for sponsorship applications and travel to the United States.
