Georgetown McDonough Launches Accelerated Pathway from MiM to MBA
Graduates of the STEM-designated M.S. in Management (MiM) program at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business can now transfer credits from their degree to pursue the Full-time or Flex MBA, offering a new pathway to earn two degrees from McDonough in an accelerated timeframe.
The MiM to MBA Pathway is designed for MiM alumni who have gained three to five years of professional experience and are seeking an opportunity to complement their master’s education for career advancement, leadership development, or specialization in key fields or sectors.
“Our goal is to empower MiM alumni to return to McDonough with new experiences and ambitions, and take the next step in their journey as leaders. The MiM to MBA Pathway not only accelerates their degree but also expands their access to new ideas, networks, and opportunities that will shape the trajectory of their careers.”
Michael O’Leary, senior associate dean for graduate and executive degree programs
Upon admission to the MBA program, MiM graduates can use up to 27 of their credit hours toward the 54-credit MBA and complete the remaining MBA coursework in as little as 1-1.5 years, depending on the format they choose. The incoming MiM to MBA students will benefit from the school’s top-ranked MBA curriculum that builds on their existing business knowledge while honing their strategic thinking, leadership, and data and analytics capabilities. They’ll participate in signature experiences to gain real-world exposure to business challenges, including another opportunity to travel abroad and experience the MBA Global Business Experience consulting projects.
“We see strong interest from MiM alumni who want to return to McDonough to further their education with an MBA, given our experiential learning opportunities and strong career services,” said Nita Swinsick, associate dean and managing director of graduate and executive degree programs admissions. “We have created the MiM to MBA Pathway to build on this demand and create a fast-track for students to achieve their highest potential.”
MBA students have the opportunity to participate in co-curricular experiences like the Small Business Corps, student clubs, and engagement with a growing list of faculty-led centers, initiatives, and institutes.
For Dottie Ochoa (MiM’21, MBA’27) – Georgetown McDonough’s first MiM to MBA Pathway candidate – the co-curricular experiences were primary drivers behind her decision to return to McDonough. After working for the Enterprise Strategy Consulting team at RSM and gaining exposure to the startup world, she is leveraging the Georgetown Entrepreneurship ecosystem to jumpstart her entrepreneurial pursuits.
“The MiM program helped me to translate my public sector skills to the private sector, deepen my business acumen, and learn how my skills were transferable,” said Ochoa. “After gaining more career experience and finding an interest in entrepreneurship, I’m excited to return to Georgetown as the first MiM to MBA Pathway candidate to explore this career path.”
This new pathway program is open to any graduate of Georgetown’s MiM program. Learn more and apply.
