Georgetown’s MSBA to Collaborate with Microsoft to Provide Cloud Computing and Analytics Training, Industry Connections

Students in Georgetown McDonough’s Master of Science in Business Analytics program (MSBA) will have the opportunity to benefit from unique training and networking opportunities with one of the nation’s largest cloud-computing platforms: Microsoft Azure.

As the demand for cloud computing services continues to rise, companies are turning their attention to well-qualified analytics professionals that have both the business acumen and knowledge of cutting-edge technologies necessary to compete in a changing market.

“We are committed to preparing professionals for careers of the future,” said Sudipta Dasmohapatra, professor of the practice and academic director of the MSBA program. “Our new collaboration with Microsoft allows students to apply their analytical skills with a company that is transforming the data science landscape on an international scale. Exposure to these platforms will be critical to our students’ success as data analytics professionals, and we are proud to work with Microsoft on these efforts.”

Microsoft is one of the leading cloud providers on the market, offering a platform of products and project solutions for enterprises around the world. MSBA students will benefit from specialized training opportunities in business intelligence and dashboarding tools, such as Microsoft Power BI for data visualization. Students also will be exposed to Azure to understand the role it plays in business analytics.

The company recently opened offices in Washington D.C. to expand its presence in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas. This new location increases MSBA students’ access to Microsoft professionals; students will have opportunities to attend in-person trainings, networking events, and site visits to the new facilities.

In addition to ongoing trainings, students may be tasked with utilizing Power BI and cloud computing tools for their capstone project. This project will ask students to employ their skills with analytics tools, business functions, computing and technology, and value-based data analytics to define an organizational challenge and present actionable insights to real-world clients and McDonough faculty.

Georgetown’s MSBA is a premier program designed specifically for technology-enhanced learning, characterized by close-knit cohorts, a dedicated career services team, and flexibility for working professionals seeking to balance their education with work and personal commitments. The 16-month program includes a combination of synchronous and asynchronous coursework with two campus-based residencies that provide integrated, hands-on activities.

The curriculum integrates the technical aspects of data analytics with managerial business functions, with students learning to “speak the language of data.” Students learn from expert faculty who provide foundational skills in accounting, finance, economics, marketing, and operations through both research-based and applied solutions to real business problems.
