Mayo Named Elsa Carlson McDonough Chair of Business Administration

John Mayo, professor of economics, business, and public policy, will serve as the Elsa Carlson McDonough Chair of Business Administration beginning this school year. Mayo, who currently is serving as Strategy Area coordinator and is the founder and executive director of the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy, received the appointment on the strength of his record of research and his intellectual leadership at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business.

Mayo’s personal connection to the position’s namesake make this an especially meaningful appointment.

“I had the pleasure to get to know Bob McDonough when he was alive, and came to really enjoy his friendship. The Elsa Carlson McDonough Chair, which is named after his late wife, is especially meaningful to me because it bears the McDonough name,” he said. “I am immensely honored to hold this chair that reflects the generosity of Bob to the school.”

He also sees the position as an opportunity to expand the influence of Georgetown McDonough through his research, which investigates the intersection of economics, business, and public policy.

“There truly is no university in the world that is better positioned to focus on this nexus than Georgetown, and I am delighted to be one of the strong cadre of scholars here that work in this space and amplify Georgetown’s role in our larger society,” Mayo said.
