Former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissioner Joins Georgetown’s McDonough School Of Business
Michael Piwowar, former commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, is joining the Center for Financial Markets and Policy at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business as a distinguished policy fellow.
The Center for Financial Markets and Policy develops solutions-oriented approaches to addressing challenges facing global finance. Piwowar will drive this effort by convening students and prominent people in global financial markets to enhance the academic experience, provide mentorship opportunities, and build partnerships in the public and private sectors.
“As an alumnus of Georgetown McDonough, I am pleased to join the Center for Financial Markets and Policy, which enriches the intellectual life of both the university and the global financial community,” said Piwowar. “I am looking forward to bringing my experience from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the White House, and Congress to propel the center’s efforts.”

McDonough Professor of Business Administration, professor of finance, and director of the Center for Financial Markets and Policy. “Michael brings deep understanding of financial markets and their implications for the global society, leadership experience, depth of financial acumen, and commitment as the Center for Financial Markets and Policy engages market participants, leading academics, and policymakers in dialogue regarding critical issues relating to global finance.”
Piwowar will serve as executive director of the Milken Institute Center for Financial Markets concurrently with his role at Georgetown McDonough’s Center for Financial Markets and Policy. He received a Bachelor of Arts in foreign service and international politics from the Pennsylvania State University, an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, and a Ph.D. in finance from the Pennsylvania State University.
