U.S. News Ranks McDonough Among Top Online Business Programs

Georgetown McDonough ranked 7th overall in the U.S. News annual ranking of online graduate business programs. McDonough’s score was driven by the school’s online Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program.

For the ranking, U.S. News evaluated online programs (excluding MBAs) from multiple business disciplines in the areas of student engagement, admissions selectivity, student services and technology, faculty credentials and teaching, and peer assessment. U.S. News combines data from multiple online degree programs at each school to arrive at the overall score. Within the online business programs ranking, only one school listed ahead of McDonough also offers an online MSF degree.

Additionally, U.S. News combined data from its online MBA ranking and the online business programs ranking to compile a list of the best schools for online finance degrees. McDonough was listed behind one school offering an online MSF and one offering an online MBA finance concentration.

“The MSF program brings the best of Georgetown McDonough’s in-person learning experience to a cutting-edge online platform,” said Allan Eberhart, senior associate dean for the MSF program and professor of finance. “Our students benefit from interactive cohorts, academic rigor, and personalized attention from faculty and staff. Only at Georgetown can students achieve this level of community engagement and connection from a blended online program.”

The Georgetown MSF offers asynchronous learning through its Anytime Media platform and synchronous weekly case discussions in its blended classroom, where students have the option to attend in person or remotely from anywhere in the world. It also includes the signature Global Consulting Project course, where students consult for a company abroad and then travel to present recommendations to senior leadership.

The program offers two tracks: part-time and full-time. Students can complete the program on a full-time or part-time basis while continuing to work full time. For those who choose to focus solely on their degree, students also have the opportunity to receive supplemental career strategy coursework to help them pursue an internship or a full-time job as well as additional elective course offerings. Students in both tracks are united into a single cohort for the duration of the program to encourage camaraderie and co-learning among classmates.

Graduates from the MSF program are well positioned for success in their careers. According to the latest employment report, MSF students reported an average base salary of $112,605, a 52% increase in base compensation within the time of admission to six months of graduation. Georgetown McDonough houses one of the only career centers in the country that is specifically devoted to MSF students.
