Meet the New McDonough Faculty: Alice Moon

We are pleased to welcome new faculty members to the Georgetown McDonough community this fall.

In our Meet the New McDonough Faculty Series, learn more about the interests, specialties, experiences, and personalities behind the talented academics inside the Rafik B. Hariri Building on Georgetown’s campus.

We spoke with Alice Moon, an assistant professor of marketing, about what she hopes to accomplish at Georgetown through her engagement with students, research, classroom teachings, and beyond.

What are you most looking forward to when it comes to working at Georgetown McDonough?

I am most looking forward to a vibrant academic community, the opportunity to engage with bright and motivated students, and to collaborate with great new colleagues.

What institution or previous line of work are you coming from?

Previously, I was on the faculty at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in the Operations, Information, and Decisions department.

What is your area(s) of expertise and which subject(s) are you most passionate about?

My area of expertise lies in consumer decision-making with a focus on understanding the psychological and behavioral aspects of how consumers make choices in various contexts, such as under risk and uncertainty.

What is your favorite quote and why?

One of my favorite quotes is: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” This quote resonates with me because it reinforces the idea that even seemingly small actions and contributions can have a significant impact when driven by passion and dedication.

What is your favorite podcast or book and why?

One of my recent favorite books is: Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown. She does a wonderful job describing emotions and how they impact you and your relationships, using vivid, relatable examples. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

How would you describe yourself in a few words?

Inquisitive; empathetic; adventurous.

What do you hope to ultimately bring to the McDonough community?

I hope to bring a fresh perspective to consumer decision-making research and foster a collaborative and stimulating academic environment. I aim to inspire students to think critically, embrace curiosity, and apply research insights to real-world scenarios.
