Meet the New McDonough Faculty: Seyoung Park

In our Meet the New McDonough Faculty Series, learn more about the interests, specialties, experiences, and personalities behind the talented academics inside the Rafik B. Hariri Building on Georgetown’s campus. 

We spoke with Seyoung Park, an assistant professor of accounting, about what she hopes to accomplish at Georgetown through her engagement with students, research, classroom teachings, and beyond.

What are you most looking forward to when it comes to working at Georgetown McDonough?

I am most excited about conducting collaborative research with fellow McDonough faculty. McDonough has leading scholars in the field of accounting and finance, which are areas I research in, so I am really looking forward to it. 

Also, I am delighted to teach financial accounting courses and interact with students. I look forward to providing students with enthusiastic, high-quality instruction that supports them in their objective of learning accounting and prepares them for their future careers as business professionals.

What institution or previous line of work are you coming from? 

Prior to joining academia, I worked as an auditor in public accounting.

What is your area(s) of expertise and which subject(s) are you most passionate about? 

My research examines how corporate disclosures and accounting information play roles in the capital markets. I am specifically interested in how informed traders’ information affects corporate management decisions, Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs), and ESG issues.

What is your favorite quote and why? 

I like the quote “Nothing is impossible.” My dad always encouraged me by saying “There is nothing you can’t do in this world,” and his encouragement indeed has helped me overcome challenges that I face in my life.

What is your favorite podcast or book and why? 

Hardcore History. I like history because I believe that there are always lessons that we can learn from the past.

How would you describe yourself in a few words? 

I would describe myself as passionate and compassionate.

What do you hope to ultimately bring to the McDonough community? 

I hope to bring positive energy to the McDonough community by being a good colleague, warm- hearted educator, and an enthusiastic researcher.
