Thompson Receives Distinguished Alumni Award

Debora Thompson, Beyer Family Associate Professor of Marketing at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, was awarded the 2018 Allan Nash Distinguished Doctoral Alumni Award from the University of Maryland, where she earned a Ph.D. in marketing. The award recognizes one Robert H. Smith School of Business alumnus annually for outstanding research and teaching, as well as service contributions to the field.

Thompson’s research in marketing and consumer behavior uses psychological principles to predict how consumers form preferences and to recommend effective marketing strategies. Thompson utilizes her research to provide strategic advice to business leaders and industry executives.

Her research has been published in many in top journals, including Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, and Harvard Business Review. She also serves on the editorial review board for several journals.

“I am very proud to be an alumna of the Smith School and am deeply grateful for the numerous opportunities that the school afforded me,” said Thompson, who joined the Georgetown McDonough faculty in 2006. “It was a great honor to receive the 2018 the Nash Outstanding Doctoral Alumni Award this year.”

Earlier in her career, Thompson twice received the Provost’s Distinguished Associate Professor Award at Georgetown University for her achievements in research and teaching.
