Professor Tang received her bachelor's degree from Peking University and her PH.D degree from the University of Michigan. She joined Georgetown University in 2005. She is an associate professor and a fellow at the AI, Data Analytics, and Future of Work Initiative at the McDonough School of Business.
Professor Tang's research expertise encompasses predicting future earnings using current financial and non-financial information, earnings quality, and fair value accounting. Her current research interests include1) how AI reshapes labor markets and corporate cost structure and profitability; 2) how to measure the value of data in financial markets and how disinformation and the intervention of disinformation influence market participants' behavior; 3) how innovations in technology via social media have changed business forecasting, investment in intangible assets, and the competitive landscape in credit markets (both trade credits and bank credits); 4) the regulatory framework and taxation of digital assets, especially their impact on cryptocurrency pricing and their interplay with traditional banking systems and geopolitical risks; 5) how relational engagement substitutes for high-powered contractual arrangements in M&As; and 6) the Chinese capital markets.
Professor Tang has published articles in multiple top-tier journals, including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, and Research Policy. Her academic contributions have been widely recognized. Her research on transparency and the effectiveness of tax policy in cryptocurrency markets has received the Best Paper Award at the 2025 National Business and Economics Society Conference. Her work on the geography of cryptocurrency flows was nominated as one of the four papers for the Best Paper in Capital Markets Award at the 2023 European Financial Management Conference.
Outside of the academic circle, Professor Tang was the recipient of the Eisenhower Foundation's International Leadership Award in 2019 and served as chair of the Asian American Youth Leadership Award, sponsored by the US-China Association of Commerce in 2025.
