Preparing Students for the Careers of Today – and of Tomorrow
We believe business is a powerful force for positive change in the world. Preparing students for that responsibility demands a global perspective, a values-based foundation, and the ability to seek out opportunity and navigate complex, cross-sector challenges.
That’s why we take a “business and” approach – integrating business with fields that are reshaping industries and society. Through interdisciplinary partnerships across Georgetown as well as innovative programs, co-curricular activities, and research opportunities, we proactively seek out answers, embrace ambiguity, and create a better future for our world.
These fields of the future – AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work; the Business of Health; the Business of Sustainability; and Sports Business – reflect where markets are evolving, where leadership is most needed, and where our graduates can make the greatest impact in business.
To address how technology is changing how we work in a way that looks after those most disrupted by these changes, the AI, Analytics, and Future of Work Initiative, led by Professor Alberto Rossi, produces research, supports student learning, and convenes thought leaders around relevant issues.
The M.S. in Business Analytics prepares students to use data to make value-based decisions. This is in addition to curricular updates that added more data and analytics courses for undergraduate and graduate students through the reimagined Operations and Analytics department.
The Business of Health Initiative prepares business leaders and medical professionals to tackle critical issues in the healthcare industry through multidisciplinary research and ongoing engagement with industry practitioners to inspire forward-thinking solutions to the national healthcare system. It is led by Sandeep Dahiya, Crnkovich Family Business of Health Chair at Georgetown McDonough, who also holds a joint appointment in Georgetown’s School of Medicine as an associate professor of biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology.
The Business of Sustainability Initiative explores the business case for sustainability to create long-term value for organizations by embracing opportunities and managing risks deriving from economic, environmental, and social developments. Led by Henry J. Blommer Family Chair in Sustainable Business and Professor of Operations Vishal Agrawal, one of the world’s leading researchers at the intersection of business and sustainability, the initiative produces influential research and convenes industry leaders around sustainability challenges and solutions. The initiative also focuses on student learning through the Undergraduate Sustainable Business Fellows and the MBA Certificate in Sustainable Business, in partnership with Business for Impact.
The M.S. in Environment and Sustainability Management, offered in collaboration with the Georgetown Earth Commons Institute and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, blends science and business principles that prepare graduates to achieve global sustainability goals for their organizations.
Sports Business
As one of the most visible and rapidly evolving global industries, the business of sports has never been more complex or more consequential. What happens on the field is only one part of a much broader global enterprise, spanning finance, technology, media, policy, and culture, with the power to influence economies, shape societies, and bring people together across borders.
The Durban Sports Business Program, made possible by the generosity of Egon (B’95) and Abby Durban (P’21), takes a distinctive, business-first approach to sports through specialized coursework, global experiences, and direct engagement with industry leaders.
Led by Executive Director Luis Maes, the program brings together a highly selective cohort of Sports Business Fellows for rigorous, immersive learning to build the analytical, strategic, and ethical foundation required to lead in this dynamic field. Rooted in Georgetown’s Jesuit values and global perspective, and strengthened by a deep alumni network, the program prepares graduates to navigate complexity, lead with integrity, and drive meaningful impact in an industry that sits at the center of business and society.
