Integral to the intensive Georgetown experience is the opportunity to evaluate your career and define specific professional goals that form part of your journey with us. In addition to the stimulating academic learning experience, Georgetown McDonough provides you the personalized support you need to articulate your career aspirations and evaluate your options across different professional fields.

The Executive Career Management team supports each student in the Executive MBA (EMBA) and Executive Master’s in Leadership (EML) programs with advice, coaching, and guidance throughout their Georgetown journey.

  1. Discover your strengths by understanding your values, leadership style, motivation and aspirations;
  2. Explore your options by synthesizing industry trends, work environments, and career paths and making meaningful career connections; and

Executive Career Management provides you with a host of interventions that are outcome-driven, customized, and highly focused on individual needs. They include:

  1. Assessments that can help identify your leadership style, inter-cultural readiness, strengths, business reasoning, motivators, and drivers;
  2. In-class sessions on career topics and leadership evolution that prepare you for the challenges in your career journey;
  3. Webinars on career transitioning, preparing career documents, improving your visibility, and personal branding;
  4. 1-on-1 coaching that ensures confidential sharing and helps you brainstorm, practice, and prepare for your career transitions;
  5. A proprietary Georgetown University jobs database that alumni and employers use to post openings and events specifically for this community;  
  6. Connections to Georgetown’s global alumni network so you can broaden your own network and explore new opportunities while gaining new insights;   
  7. A career toolkit with a shared repository of templates, samples, and best practice documents that provide you with the right kind of guidance to achieve your career goals; and
  8. Mentorship Program providing selected students with the opportunity to develop a one-on-one relationship with a high-level mentor in your field of interest.

Our Assistant Dean Executive & Graduate Degree Programs: Denise Durgin, EML (’16)

Denise Durgin

Denise Durgin serves the McDonough School of Business as Assistant Dean Executive and Graduate Degree Programs within the McDonough Career Center. Most recently Denise was a Patient Experience Performance Advisor for the Women’s and Children’s clinical staff and senior executive clinical triad at Inova Health System. Before her role in patient experience, Denise worked for 25+ years at Marriott International and The Ritz-Carlton in sales, marketing, revenue management leadership roles. Denise also served 3+ years as Senior Director in Asset Management at Host Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest REIT.

For 20+ years, Denise has given back to the DC area community through her volunteer work on various boards and councils in the oncology space. Her passion to serve others also resulted in Denise publishing her first book, Prescription for Proton Radiation, as well as numerous media appearances and participation on patient panels both locally and at the national level.

Denise earned her Executive Master’s degree in Leadership at Georgetown University’s, McDonough School of Business and her undergraduate degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration at The University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Management. Denise is also a certified executive coach credentialed through the International Coach Federation. Denise lives in McLean, Virginia with her husband and two pups, Stella and Stewie. She’s a stepmom of four daughters and enjoys time with her family, fitness, reading, Boston sports and serving others through her volunteer work.
