The M.S. in Global Real Assets program was designed to give students an edge in building a career at the intersection of real assets and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues. Industry professionals who understand how to leverage their knowledge of ESG as a risk management investment tool will be poised for success, and our graduates will be poised to help organizations lead in this space.

Through our Steers Center for Global Real Estate, our vast alumni network in the industry, and our relationships with the world’s top employers, we know the industry is shifting, and the program’s curriculum and experiential coursework has intentionally been designed to prepare you for long-term career success.

The M.S. in Global Real Assets career team within the McDonough Career Center partners with each student on their career ambitions and helps you navigate the many paths within the real assets field. We support students in the process of self-discovery, career strategy, leadership development, and network-building to empower graduates to become principled, global leaders.

Working with the Career Team

To ensure all Global Real Assets students have a personalized experience preparing for their post-graduate career, the McDonough Career Center offershas an experienced career  coach dedicated to working only with the small cohort of students in this program. The result is a close relationship with someone who knows you, knows your goals, and knows the industry and who will help you navigate your internship and job search process.

Our personalized approach begins with an assessment of each student’s individual strengths, interests, and values. Through our career curriculum, including our signature summer job search course and one-on-one meetings, our experienced career coach works closely with our students to identify their unique skill set and map out a personalized career plan that fits their specific goals and aspirations.

Our offerings include a range of resources and tools to help our students prepare for their chosen career path, including ongoing workshops, interview preparation and 1-on-1 coaching, and networking opportunities with industry leaders. The Master of Science in Global Real Assets career team is committed to ensuring our students are fully prepared and confident to take on the career of their dreams.

In addition to the McDonough Career Center, the Steers Center for Global Real Estate has cultivated relationships with numerous real estate leaders from among the global Georgetown University alumni base, as well as industry executives interested in working with our students. The result is a network of influential real estate professionals invested in your success.

The program also was designed to maximize your experience in the program. While an internship is not required, the two-day-a-week class schedule was designed so students interested in pursuing an internship can take advantage of Georgetown’s location in Washington, D.C., which is home to numerous real estate firms. 

*Internships are not part of the curriculum and are therefore optional and non-credit bearing. Please note that international students on F1 status cannot participate in paid off-campus internships.

Assistant Dean, Graduate and Executive Degree Programs: Denise Durgin

Denise Durgin serves the McDonough School of Business as assistant dean for Graduate and Executive Degree Programs within the McDonough Career Center. Most recently Durgin was a patient experience performance advisor for the women’s and children’s clinical staff and senior executive clinical triad at Inova Health System. Before her role in patient experience, Durgin worked for more than 25 years at Marriott International and The Ritz-Carlton in sales, marketing, and revenue management leadership roles. She also served as senior director in asset management at Host Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest REIT.

Durgin earned her Executive Master’s in Leadership at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and her undergraduate degree in hotel, restaurant, and travel administration at The University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Management. Durgin also is a certified executive coach credentialed through the International Coach Federation. She lives in McLean, Virginia, with her husband and two pups, Stella and Stewie. She’s a stepmom of four daughters and enjoys time with her family, fitness, reading, Boston sports, and serving others through her volunteer work.

For more than 20 years, Durgin has given back to the D.C.-area community through her volunteer work on various boards and councils in the oncology space. Her passion to serve others also resulted in publishing her first book, Prescription for Proton Radiation, as well as numerous media appearances and participation on patient panels both locally and at the national level.
