Pitch Deck: Recharging the Motor Market

Rory Brogan (MBA’22) arrived at Georgetown McDonough determined to learn the language of entrepreneurship. With a background in electrical engineering from SMU, he had long envisioned a better way to design electric motors — without relying on rare earth materials that are costly, environmentally harmful, and largely controlled by overseas markets. At McDonough, through the Venture Fellows program and with mentorship from Jeff Reid, professor of the practice and founding director of Georgetown Entrepreneurship, Brogan transformed that vision into Torev Motors.

Based in Arlington, Virginia, Torev is pioneering high-performance, rare-earth-free electric motors for automotive and defense applications. Its patented technology replaces permanent magnets with electromagnets, delivering stronger performance, cost savings, and more secure supply chains. Since its inception, the company has secured Small Business Innovation Research funding from the U.S. Army. With commercial and defense partners taking notice, Torev Motors is proving how Georgetown’s entrepreneurial ecosystem empowers bold ideas with the potential to reshape industries.
