Baratta Center Concludes Successful Pilot of Short Co-Curricular Internship Program for Global Business Fellows

The Baratta Center for Global Business at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business recently concluded its inaugural Short Co-Curricular Internship Program for Global Business Fellows, a new initiative providing junior and senior Global Business Fellows (GBF) the opportunity to engage in a part-time, paid internship for six weeks during the spring 2025 semester.

Designed to bridge academic learning with real-world business and policy challenges, the program paired students with leading global organizations. The internships focused on key global business and nonprofit topics such as strategy, marketing, supply chain analysis, and more. In addition to gaining practical experience, fellows developed skills in areas like market research, strategic planning, benchmarking, and content evaluation.

Although this program was initially exclusive to GBF students, the Baratta Center plans to expand its offerings in future semesters to include more students and a broader array of organizations.

“One of the key elements of the Baratta Center’s mission is connecting students to business, government policy, society, and academic and applied research,” says Anil Khurana, executive director of the Baratta Center. “With the successful conclusion of this first round of the Global Experience Fellowship program, we were able to provide global business students with the connections and hands-on experience to help them become tomorrow’s changemakers.”

Career Impact

This program was designed to provide hands-on experience that enhances students’ career prospects before they graduate.

“The Global Business Fellows program has always been focused on providing students with practical experiences, such as the Global Business Experience. This new internship program expands on that by providing individual students the opportunity to work on projects with global businesses over a six-week period,” said Stephen Weymouth, Provost’s Distinguished Associate Professor and director of the Global Business Fellows Program.

The internships were structured to include virtual mentorship, weekly check-ins, and final deliverables, ensuring that the fellows had meaningful engagement with their host organizations. Fellows also had the unique opportunity to participate in a virtual session with Joseph Baratta (B’93), global head of private equity strategies at Blackstone, and professor Anil Khurana during their internships.
