Thirteen Faculty Join McDonough in 2018-2019
Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business welcomed six new tenured and tenure-track faculty members, as well as seven visiting faculty members, teaching professors, lecturers, and faculty fellows.
Tenured and tenure-track faculty
Jasmina Chauvin joins Georgetown McDonough as an assistant professor of strategy. She holds a doctorate from Harvard Business School in strategy and focuses her research on international development and entrepreneurship.
Lizhi Liu is an assistant professor of strategy. She holds a doctorate in political science from Stanford University, where she wrote her dissertation on the political effects of e-commerce in China.
Jordan Schoenfeld joins Georgetown from the University of Utah as an assistant professor of accounting. He earned a doctorate in business administration, with a concentration in accounting, from the University of Michigan. His research focuses on the effects of voluntary disclosure by shareholders.
Katalin Springel is an assistant professor of strategy from the University of California, Berkeley. She received a doctorate from U.C. Berkeley in industrial organization and environmental economics.
Xiaoli Tian joins McDonough as an assistant professor of accounting after serving as a visiting professor during the 2017-2018 academic year. Her research focuses on strategic disclosure and and financial reporting. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
Xiaofei Zhao is an assistant professor of finance from the University of Texas at Dallas. Zhao has a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Toronto and studies asset pricing and empirical corporate finance.
Non-tenured faculty
Sahar Akhtar is a visiting professor at the Georgetown Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics (GISME). Her research investigates the ethics of immigration, state membership, and identity. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Duke University.
Ed Egan is a visiting assistant professor of strategy from Rice University, where he is director of the McNair Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. His research has focused on venture capital and startup firms, and he holds a Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley in business administration.
Harrison Frye joins Georgetown McDonough as a GISME junior faculty fellow. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in politics, where his research has explored the relationship between freedom and the rule of law.
Alyssa Lovegrove is a teaching professor of strategy, with a focus in entrepreneurship. She joined the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Initiative at the McDonough School of Business in 2011 and continues to serve the initiative as managing director.
Nick Lovegrove joined Georgetown last spring as an adjunct and is returning this year as a professor of the practice in management. During his 30-year career at McKinsey, Lovegrove advised CEOs and government officials and led the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. He also has authored a book on career design.
James Ostler is a visiting professor of strategy from the University of Michigan. He holds a doctorate in management from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has written award- winning papers on risk-taking and strategy.
Luke Semrau joins Georgetown from Vanderbilt University to be a junior faculty fellow at GISME. He received a doctorate in philosophy, focusing on ethics, political philosophy, logic, and epistemology.
