Professor Appointed to Global Auditing Board

James Dalkin, adjunct professor of accounting and finance at Georgetown McDonough, has been appointed incoming chair of the Consultative Advisory Group (CAG) to the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB). Dalkin was elected by members of the IAASB CAG and was approved by the Public Interest Oversight Board, which oversees various boards in the global accountancy profession.

The IAASB is an independent body that sets and assists in the adoption and implementation of quality international standards for auditing, assurance, and related areas. The CAG comprises 32 member organizations that advise the IAASB on its agenda, project timetable, technical projects, and other relevant matters.

In his new role, Dalkin will act as the primary representative and spokesperson of the CAG, oversee the conduct of the group, and act as the liaison with other organizations and the greater IAASB.

“The IAASB sets the global auditing standards and is at the forefront of emerging international finance issues,” said Dalkin. “I look forward to bringing these pressing issues into the classroom.”

Dalkin also is a director in the Financial Management and Assurance Team with the U.S. Government Accountability Office. He oversees audits of the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and is an observer to the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission advisory board.
