Baratta Center Announces Inaugural Alumni Award to Recognize Global Impact
The Baratta Center for Global Business at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business is proud to announce the Georgetown Baratta Center Global Impact Award. This prestigious recognition will be presented to five exceptional Georgetown University alumni under the age of 40, recognizing their exemplary leadership, innovation, and impact in promoting the positive aspects of globalization and benefiting people worldwide.
In alignment with Georgetown McDonough’s mission to inspire ethical leaders who serve the common good and Georgetown University’s Jesuit value of cura personalis, or “care for the whole person,” the Baratta Center Global Impact Award aims to acknowledge future leaders who are engaged in innovative and sustainable initiatives that foster cross-border business and economic development. The awardees will exemplify the Spirit of Georgetown, including excellence, global perspective, diversity, the common good, respect, action-orientation, and social justice.
“The Baratta Center is thrilled to recognize Hoya alumni making a meaningful impact on a global scale,” said Joseph Baratta (B’93), global head of private equity at Blackstone. “Whether their influence as business leaders is felt in the C-suite, in the nonprofit sector, through philanthropic efforts, or through new entrepreneurial pursuits — the recipients of this inaugural award are driving positive change and making a meaningful difference on issues impacting our world. We look forward to recognizing these outstanding individuals for their contributions to our global society.”
Nominations for this award are open to all qualifying alumni until September 8, 2024. Eligible candidates must be Georgetown University alumni in good standing, under the age of 40, and demonstrate leadership, innovation, and a positive impact on globalization. Nominations, including self-nominations, can be submitted through an online form.
Award recipients will be honored with a Georgetown University plaque, an invitation to join the Baratta Center’s advisory board as a guest member for a one-year term, and the opportunity to serve as a guest member of a Baratta Center Working Group. Additionally, winners will be featured as speakers or panelists at one of the Baratta Center’s roundtables or conferences. The winners will officially be announced at a ceremony during the Baratta Center’s Annual Future of Global Business conference on October 8, 2024.
“As the Baratta Center continues to address and convene global discussions on the challenges facing our world today – including topics such as changing global industries, how geopolitics are shaping global investments and industrial policy, and many others – we are delighted to launch the annual Global Impact Award to recognize alumni who are truly playing a leadership role in shaping responses to global and societal challenges,” said Anil Khurana, founding executive director of the Baratta Center at Georgetown McDonough. “The world is in a difficult and challenging phase, and now more than ever, we need leaders who can reach across borders, solve problems, and deliver good for the world.”
Formerly known as the Georgetown McDonough Global Business Initiative, the Baratta Center for Global Business was established in April 2023 by a $11 million gift from Joseph and Abigail (SFS’96) Baratta. The center engages with key stakeholders to help discuss and shape global business issues such as globalization and how business can do good for the world.
The vision of the center is to be the venue for discussing and shaping the future of global business, by connecting students and faculty to business, government, policy, society, and academic and applied research.
