Academics

A Master’s in Management (MiM) is designed for recent undergraduate students with zero to three years of full-time work experience. At Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, our MiM program is a full-time, 10-month, in-person program designed for students from any academic or professional background. Through our curriculum, students focus on business fundamentals in areas such as leadership communications, statistics, operations, marketing, and consulting tools, as well as complete an international consulting project.

The Master’s in Management (MiM) program is a 10-month, in-person graduate program consisting of five, seven-week modules. It also includes a one-week global residency to be delivered abroad in the spring. The program is full-time and is structured to allow students to participate in a part-time job or internship, if desired.

No. All required courses are delivered in person at Georgetown University’s Capitol Campus in Washington, D.C. Some optional coursework will be available to complete online over the summer before arrival.

No, we do not offer graduate assistantship opportunities directly through the MiM program. However, graduate assistantships are available in the McDonough School of Business and university-wide.

Our values are embedded throughout the program, from advising to student life to the curriculum. Courses like Ethical Leadership help students develop an appreciation for and ability to apply the university’s Jesuit values to their professional lives.

The MiM curriculum’s general management and business focus is designed around a series of learning goals that include expanding the following abilities and competencies:

  • Leadership: Learn to create, manage, and lead high-performance teams and organizations.
  • Functional Knowledge and Stakeholder Value: Explore these by studying global markets, industries, and corporations, including learning foundations of accounting, finance, operations, marketing, organizational behavior, statistics, and strategy.
  • Analytical, Data-Driven Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Develop consulting, design thinking, and data analytics skills necessary to create human-centered, data-driven solutions that solve complex business problems.
  • Communication Skills: Learn the technology translation skills necessary to operate in high-tech, innovative companies and industries. Students will study foundational computing and analytical tools such as R, SQL, and Data Visualization in addition to becoming comfortable working with Excel and big data.
  • Values-based Approach to Business: Through the Ethical Leadership class and other coursework, students develop an appreciation for and ability to apply Jesuit values to business creation, strategy, and decision making.
  • Global and Diversity Mindset: Understand actions and consequences in the context of a global and diverse world.

Our Master’s in Management (MiM) curriculum is modeled after the first year of our MBA curriculum. Therefore, students learn an array of business fundamentals and topics, including R programming, AI and Chat GPT training, ethical leadership, marketing, accounting, operations and supply chain management, and finance. Students take one elective course, with options available in a variety of topics including programming, consulting tools, and data analytics.

Yes, our Master’s in Management (MiM) curriculum includes a focus on leadership throughout the 10-month program. Two specific courses, Ethical Leadership and Leadership Communication, taught in the first two modules of the program, set the focus on building leadership skills for students. These courses form the foundation for other leadership training throughout the curriculum and in extracurricular experiences.

Yes. Participants will receive syllabi and a list of required course materials no less than two weeks prior to the start of each module, which includes the assignments with due dates indicating when participant presentations or any written work and deliverables are to be submitted. Some instructors may provide reading materials, however this will vary by course.

Depending on your work experience and familiarity with the subject matter, the amount of preparation time will vary. Expect to spend an average of 20-25 hours per week on coursework outside of the classroom.

Individual faculty members deliver course content using different approaches, including case studies, lectures, experiential learning, simulations, and group projects. Teamwork is emphasized throughout the program. It creates a rich learning environment in which students are exposed to various industry perspectives and learn from their classmates’ experiences.

Our Master’s in Management (MiM) curriculum is designed to teach students skills from leadership to R programming. As such, graduates leave the program with a wide breadth of career options. Some of the most popular MiM roles are in functions in marketing/sales, finance/accounting, consulting, and business/data analytics, along with general management roles.

Master’s in Management (MiM) graduates find jobs at a variety of organizations after graduation. Admissions

In addition to the online application, applicants must submit a current resume/curriculum vitae, video essay, official academic transcripts, at least one letter of recommendation, a personal essay, proof of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (if graduated), and GRE or GMAT scores (some exemptions apply). Non-native English speakers also must submit an official TOEFL (minimum 100) or IELTS score (minimum 7.5).

MiM applicants are not expected to have any prior work experience, and the typical applicant will have between zero and three years of experience.

Graduates of this program receive a Master of Science in Management from Georgetown University.

Since the Master’s in Management program is a rigorous, intensive 10-month program, most students will not seek full-time employment while they participate in the program. However courses are structured, particularly in the second semester, so that students may hold an internship during the year.

The MiM program does not grant deferrals. In extreme cases, admitted students may request special consideration to be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. 

The MiM program only offers one start date per year (August).

Applicants must submit a $175 non-refundable application fee, payable online via credit card or e-check. Please do not send a personal check or money order. The MiM program will grant an application fee waiver to graduates of Georgetown University, candidates who are active duty, reservists, or veterans of the United States military and attendees of select admissions events.

Yes, interviews are required for admission and are conducted by invitation only.

Applicants must submit transcripts from all institutions in which a degree has been conferred. Please review our application requirements for detailed instructions on the requirements for non-U.S. transcripts. Applicants must submit copies of the relevant required test materials indicated within the application requirements. Review the GRE/GMAT details and the English proficiency details to verify which, if either, of these application components are required for your application to be considered complete. If your original documents are not in English and require translation, you must upload both the certified translation as well as the original documentation to the online application. Once admitted and prior to matriculating into the program, translators are required to send both the original documentation and certified translation in a signed and sealed envelope to our office. Your translator should certify that the original documentation was received in a sealed envelope from the institution. Do not submit a translation only.

Complete and submit an application: The Admissions Committee will evaluate a candidate’s application only when all application requirements have been met. Upon submission of your online application, you will receive a confirmation email that will reflect the date and time of submission.

Interview (by invitation only): Candidates with strong, compelling applications will be invited to the next stage of the admissions process, which includes an interview with members of the admissions committee. If you are invited to interview, you may be contacted at any point between the application deadline and the decision release date for the round in which you applied.

Admissions Decision: The Admissions Committee aims to release a final admissions decision on the round decision notification date that corresponds with the round deadline for which the applicant submitted.

Enrollment Decision: Candidates admitted to the MiM program will receive an online admissions letter with instructions on how to submit their enrollment decision. Those seeking to secure a seat in the upcoming class will be asked to submit two non-refundable deposits of $1,000, for a total of $2,000 that is applied toward their first tuition payment.

Course waivers are only granted if a Georgetown alumnus has participated in the Accelerated Pathways Program.

Because the MiM program is a cohort-based program, we are unable to accept transfer credit.

International students and non-native English speakers are required to demonstrate a level of competence in English sufficient to meet the admission requirements of the MiM program. All non-U.S. applicants who have not completed a bachelor degree in English are required to submit a current TOEFL or IELTS result if their admissions counselor has requested it.

TOEFL

Official scores must be sent directly from ETS to Georgetown University, McDonough School of Business, MiM Admissions using ETS Code Number: 5781. The minimum required score is 100 (internet-based). Your test result must not be more than two years old.

IELTS

Official scores must be sent directly from Cambridge (IELTS) to your admissions counselor. We accept only academic module results; the minimum required score is 7.5. Your test result must not be more than two years old.

Tuition is billed on a per-credit rate. The MiM program spans two semesters and has two payment periods. Review MiM tuition information here. 

It includes tuition as well as specified meals and hotel accommodations for the global residency. Tuition fees exclude individual healthcare or health insurance premiums, books and supplies, student fees, round-trip airfare to and from international project locations, room and board, visas, and incidental expenses while traveling.

Georgetown McDonough offers various scholarships for MiM students. Applicants will automatically be considered for a merit-based scholarship upon submission of the application. The MiM Admissions Office notifies students of scholarship awards at the time of admission to the program.
