What is the Executive Master’s in Leadership?
Georgetown University’s Executive Master’s in Leadership (EML) is a 13-month, intensive Executive Education program that develops professionals’ understanding and application of leadership theories, techniques, and practices.
The program meets every other weekend and includes three multiple-day residencies, including one conducted abroad.
The program is designed for full-time employees with extensive management experience and a demonstrated capacity for leadership.
What are the admission requirements?
Competitive applicants have a bachelor's degree and at least eight years of work experience at a mid-level or higher management position.
Applicants must submit a complete application that includes the following components:
- Application Form (submitted online)
- Current résumé (submitted online)
- Application Fee
- Official Academic Transcripts
- Three Admissions Essays (submitted online)
- Two Letters of Recommendation (submitted online)
- TOEFL or iLETS score for English proficiency, if requested
- Employer Support Letter (sample in online application packet)
- At least one of the following items:
- A previous Graduate Degree from an accredited institution
- A standardized Test Score from the GMAT, GRE, LSAT or MCAT
- A strong writing portfolio
- Work experience of over 12 years
- Professional certification (such as CPA, CFA, Professional Engineering Certification, Registration as an Architect, etc. etc.)
- Exceptional Global experience (please elaborate)
- Other demonstration of capacity to succeed in demanding post-graduate studies
After submitting a complete application, leading candidates will be invited to take part in an admissions interview.
What kind of work experience is required?
Georgetown EML participants represent diverse backgrounds and work experience from all industry sectors. Competitive applicants have a minimum of eight years of professional experience in a mid-level or higher management position.
Can transfer credits be used towards the program?
No. Students are required to complete the entire Georgetown EML curriculum as a cohort.
When are classes held?
Georgetown’s EML Program begins each March.
Classes are held every other weekend, on Fridays from 1:00 pm - 8:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, on the Georgetown University campus in Washington, D.C.
Because students will be in class on alternate Fridays, a support letter from a participant's employer is required, indicating that the employer understands the program schedule.
