FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Should I attend an Information Session?

We strongly encourage you to attend an MBA-EP Information Session. Information Sessions bring together faculty, administrators and potential applicants to explain the program in detail. They provide a forum at which you will be able to ask questions that are important to you, and meet individuals who are knowledgeable about the program. Most MBA-EP Information Sessions run approximately an hour and a half.

What are the differences between the MBA-EP and the full-time MBA?

First, the similarities: both MBA programs are taught by the same faculty and cover the same academic content. Students in the MBA-EP receive an identical degree to students in the full-time MBA progam, even though they pursue their MBA on a part-time basis.

There are two main differences: 1) the evening program is targeted towards the working professional, and 2) the evening program takes one year longer to complete (3 years compared with two years for the full-time program).

Do you recommend that I take classes in preparation for the Program?

Applicants to the MBA-EP are expected to have basic knowledge of Algebra and Calculus, such as would be obtained in a year of college coursework. You may wish to enroll in community/local college courses if you believe additional preparation would be helpful. It is up to each applicant to demonstrate his/her potential for quantitative success.

How do I get to class?

The Georgetown University Transportation System shuttle bus (GUTS Bus) operates between the campus and Metro stops at Dupont Circle and Rosslyn.  The closest Metro is Rosslyn, a 15 minute walk across Key Bridge. Metro buses also stop in front of the Car Barn or on M Street. Students who drive to campus must either find on-street parking or pay for garage parking. Classes are held on the second floor of the Car Barn.

What is the policy regarding transferring credits?

The Georgetown MBA program does not accept transfer credits for incoming students from other colleges or universities.

Do I need to have a business/financial calculator?

Yes. You will need a financial calculator, and most students select either a Hewlett-Packard model 10BII (~$35), Hewlett-Packard model 12C (~$70), or a Texas Instruments model BA-II Plus (~$30). Any one of these or a calculator with similar functionality will meet your needs.

As an MBA-EP student will I be able to enroll in a joint degree program?

MBA-EP students are not able to pursue joint degree programs at this time.

Is it possible to transfer from the MBA-EP to the full-time MBA Program (or vice versa)?

No, at this time it is not possible to transfer from one program to another.

Do I need a laptop computer?

Laptops are required. There is no specific type required for the Georgetown MBA program but the computer must run Windows XP.  The computing center has an agreement with Computerware of Vienna, Virginia.  They sell and support IBM laptops, which is the brand MSB recommends.  It is not necessary to buy your computer through Computerware to get support.  MSB does not recommend you use an Apple computer.  A complete discussion of MSB computer recommendations is at http://technology.msb.edu/faq/minconfig.htm .

Is the GMAT mandatory?

Yes, all applicants to the MBA-EP must submit official GMAT results. GMAT scores are valid for five years. Be sure to have your scores sent to the MBA-EP office, code JT7-G0-64, formerly (5281).

Is an interview required?

Interviews are by invitation of the Admissions Committee only. After your application is submitted and complete, we will contact you to schedule an interview if the Admissions Committee determines an interview is needed.
