First Year
New Student Information
Welcome to Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business! We are delighted that you have decided to join the Georgetown community, and we look forward to your arrival on campus in August. Check back soon to access the Canvas site for the class of 2028!
First Year Seminar
The First Year Seminar Program is an exciting way for first-year students at Georgetown McDonough to investigate the nature of scholarship, think about important ideas in business, and achieve intellectual and personal growth. Students will embrace learning and engage in discussions with their peers while exploring topics ranging from the evolution of business enterprise to patterns of global commerce.
BUILD
BUILD (Business Undergraduates Invested in Leadership Development) is a week-long pre-orientation program for first-year and transfer business students that teaches the importance of effective communication, ethical leadership, and integrated business knowledge. BUILD creates a larger pool of alumni who become leaders for diversity and inclusion within their field of work.
Student Organizations
There are many student-run organizations at Georgetown McDonough.
Smart Start Program
Smart Start is a signature program in partnership with PwC offering a series of workshops, panels, and events that equip a diverse pool of first- and second-year students with the tools for academic, personal, and professional success. In keeping with the Jesuit ideal of “women and men for others,” participants are mentored by peers and by Georgetown alumni who work at PwC.
Peer Ambassadors
The Peer Ambassador and Leadership Program utilizes the experiences, knowledge, and leadership skills of selected upper-class students to help new students transition to Georgetown McDonough. Peer Ambassadors meet with prospective students, help new students with registration, and act as a point of contact for any and all questions a new student may have.
Global Summer Programs
The McDonough School of Business offers customized summer programs to allow undergraduate students to further their global experience while completing two business courses — six Georgetown credits — at well-known institutions abroad. Programs are four to five weeks long, and courses are taught by faculty from the McDonough School of Business and partner institutions.
Visit the McDonough Career Center
Today’s students have more career options than ever and must be acutely aware of their own strengths, skills, motivations, and values to develop a sustainable career plan that meets the needs of an ever-changing job market. The McDonough Career Center supports students in this process of self-discovery, career education, and network-building to create a career that will carry them throughout life.
ESCAPE Retreat
This overnight experience for first-year and transfer students is designed as an “escape” from the Hilltop. For 27 hours, enjoy the chance to meet awesome new people, eat good snacks, enjoy great live music, and take a step back from the frenzy of campus life.
