Executive Career Seminar Series:
Our Executive Career Development Curriculum supports you with a refined three-part career development system.
Leveraging group learning, we use concentrated periods of time to facilitate the deepest insights, to bring clarity to decision points, and to produce core career marketing content.
The three-part seminar series will take you through the development of your narrative, a plan for expanding your network, and a next-level candidacy strategy. The entire seminar series will be offered twice during your program, so you can choose the timing that matches your career plans.
1. YOUR NARRATIVE
The most important aspect of executive communication is the impression you make on others, and research shows that the story genre is most effective. As you navigate your way forward, you will engage in both informal and formal career conversations. What you can count on in each is the need to pinpoint your unique value to showcase in your career bio and leadership stories.
2. YOUR NETWORK
Professionals in advanced positions often display excellent networking abilities, especially the ability to initiate connections and conversations. As you rise into the executive ranks, there will be increasing demands on your time, requiring you to recalculate your network management approach. In this module, the emphases will be on time investments, strategic advocacy, and influencing decision makers.
3. YOUR NEXT LEVEL
As a finale to the career development effort, we will anticipate interviewing at the executive level by hearing from executive search consultants and executive recruiters who assess and support top candidates. This event will be held in a reception format to allow for a panel discussion surrounded by meet and greet opportunities. As tradition, the graduating class of Executive MBAs are presented to alumni in our annual Executive Bio Book.

The Executive Career Development Team is proud to offer two signature events that bring Executive Alumni and current Executive MBA students together for networking, collaboration, and career engagement:
Super Saturday Executive Career Strategy Event
This career strategy event is designed to connect current Executive MBA students with all previous cohorts of Executive MBA alumni. During Super Saturday, alumni serve as advisors to rising EMBA and GLobal Executive MBA graduates in their individual candidacy strategies, with a focus on branding and networking. Student and alumni participants develop important relationships centered on common professional interests.
Executive Recruiting Panel and Networking Reception
Each spring, the Executive Career Development team hosts a Friday evening panel-style event with representatives from top executive search firms and corporate recruiters from key Washington, D.C., employers to explore the dynamics of executive-level talent identification, interviewing, and compensation. Following the panel, students and alumni network over appetizers and drinks.
Executive Career Coaching
Bringing more than 60 years of corporate, nonprofit, consulting, and entrepreneurial experience, our Executive Career Coaching Team helps you to refine your individual story, craft your specific networking plan, and finalize essential career marketing collateral. Coaching sessions are offered at convenient times, providing one-on-one customized support to our executive career development program.
Sandra P. Buteau
Executive Career Coach
Sandra P. Buteau has over 15 years of experience in leadership development, executive coaching, and career advising both in the private and public sectors. She has worked in a law firm, with a Big 4 accounting firm, and as a senior administrator in academia, having coached clients from across the United States and from around the world. Her international background, as well as her ability to speak English, Spanish, and French, enables her to excel in specialized and diverse contexts.
Buteau is originally from the Republic of Panama, where she earned a law degree at the University of Panama and later a Master of Laws from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans. In addition to working 15 years as a career advisor and personal coach at American University and Georgetown University, she has a Leadership Coaching Certificate from Georgetown University and holds a Professional Certified Coach Certification (PCC) from the International Coach Federation. She also is certified as a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® Practitioner by the American Management Association and in Using Type in Career Counseling by The Center of Applications of Psychological Type 2.
Executive Career Coach
Jen Dalton, CEO and founder of BrandMirror, has over 15 years of experience in strategy, marketing, and coaching. In 2012, she made a gutsy move into the entrepreneurship space, launching her branding business and becoming a certified brand strategist. She enables individuals and companies to define their brand and differentiate themselves in authentic, credible, and relevant ways to their target audience and market.
Dalton attended Georgetown University as an undergraduate, where she double-majored in human resource management and international management. She completed an Executive MBA at Georgetown McDonough in the spring of 2012. Dalton previously worked at Capital One for 10 years in operations, marketing, customer management, and more. She is a Reach Certified Personal Branding Strategist, helping individuals define their authentic brand to achieve career and life success. She also is an international speaker and has worked with organizations such as Capital One, IBM, Georgetown University, 1776, C-Lever, UXPA, and more.
Executive Career Coach
Libby Graves brings more than 25 years of experience in leadership positions at Fortune 500 companies. She loves working in diverse, multicultural environments, having lived and worked in global settings. She began her career in heavy industry at Cummins Engine Company in accounting and tax and moved to increasing roles of responsibility in channel marketing, and strategic planning for Africa-Middle East. Graves also held senior leadership positions in global marketing, enterprise initiatives, and the federal government sector in the telecommunications industry.
Graves shifted from the corporate world to found Core Citizen, an executive coaching practice with a focus on leadership and career development. Her vision is to connect emerging leaders at all levels to a deeper sense of self-knowledge as the foundation for personal and professional growth. She holds an MBA from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. She has earned the Professional Certified Coach Certification (PCC) from the International Coach Federation and Board Certified Coach through CCE-Global. She uses behavioral assessments in her work and also is a Reach Certified Personal Brand Strategist and Social Media Analyst.
